Preliminary May Consumer Sentiment declines to 88.6

The preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment index for May was at 88.6, down from 95.9 in April.
This was below the consensus forecast of 95.8. Higher gasoline prices are probably the reason for the decline this month.
